ATV Roundup: Managing motorized recreation in Alberta
Motorized recreation follows in the footprint of natural resource extraction. This echo boom can have social and economic benefits, but environmental sustainability is a growing challenge. This presentation begins by profiling the significance and impact of motorized recreation in Alberta. It then provides an introduction to the ‘law of quadding,' including legislated access to public land and what happens when disputes go to court. It concludes by searching Alberta's ATV hotspots for innovative management approaches. From grassroots to government plans, from the big backcountry to private pits, this session will interest anyone with a stake in recreational land use.
